What are the major brain structures and mental functions of your brain, which children learn in elementary and middle school and teenagers learn in a more detailed high school?

This file contains an overview of basic brain ideas that you need to understood in the context of the history of science. Then, the new brain ideas that have just been discovered during the past few years with the new powerful microscopes can be discussed in plain English by all members of your family.

This part of the Alphabetical Brain™ Vocabulary website provides the basic foundation ideas necessary for you to understand how your brain works.

The first set of charts features six named mini-brain diagrams of the left side of your brain known as your Left Hemisphere. Each of these six major physical structures has specific functions required to activate your consciousness.

These six physical structures are separated by distinct membranes through which many neuronal pathways send biochemical signals from hundreds of millions of neurons to hundreds of millions of other neurons.

Next, you can think repeatedly about the names and definitions of each of the six mini-brain images in Diagram #1 and/or write down their names on a piece of paper for maximum memory retention.

To instantly see a definitive declarative statement that defines what the normal functions of each of the six physical brain structures of your Left Hemisphere are, you can TAP or CLICK on each of the six named mini-brain diagrams:

Next, you can think repeatedly about the names and definitions of each of the six unnamed mini-brain images in Diagram #2 and/or write down their names on a piece of paper for maximum memory retention.

To instantly remind yourself about what the normal functions of each of the six physical brain structures of the left side of your brain are, you can TAP or CLICK on each of the six unnamed mini-brain diagrams of your Left Hemisphere:

The next chart of six named mini-brain images in Diagram #3 represent the right side of your brain, which is called your Right Hemisphere.

These six major physical brain structures are also separated by distinct membranes with neuronal pathways connecting them. They have different functions required to activate your consciousness, including overlapping functions with the six sections of the left side of your brain.

The interactive functions of your Right Hemisphere and Left Hemisphere are facilitated primarily by three thick nerve cables known as your CORPUS COLLOSUM.

Now, you can think repeatedly about the names and definitions of each of the six mini-brain images in Diagram #3 and/or write down their names on a piece of paper for maximum memory retention.

Also, to instantly see a definitive declarative statement that defines what the normal functions of each of the six physical structures of your Right Hemisphere are, you can TAP or CLICK on each of the six named mini-brain diagrams:

Now, you can think repeatedly about the names and definitions of the six unnamed mini-brain images in Diagram #4 and/or write down their names on a piece of paper until you can easily identify them for maximum retention.

Also, to instantly remind yourself about what the normal functions of each of the six physical brain structures of the right side of your brain are, you can TAP or CLICK on each of the six unnamed mini-brain diagrams of your Right Hemisphere:

DIAGRAM #5

The 5th Diagram contains six named mini-brainstem diagrams representing both the left side and the right side of your brainstem. Because of the importance of your thalamus, which sits on top of your brainstem and is known as the "gateway" to your cerebrum and limbic system, it is included on this chart with the three major physical structures of your brainstem.

Also, within your brainstem are the two major communication processes: the separate neuronal pathways (nerves) that conduct biochemical signals of current both up and down your body through your brainstem. Your body's senses send sensory signals up to your brain and your brain's motor cortex sends motor signals down so you can control the movements of your body

Now, you can think repeatedly about the names and definitions of the four brainstem structures and the two communication processes depicted in the brainstem diagrams until you can easily identify them and/or write down their names on a piece of paper for maximum retention.

You can TAP or CLICK on each of the six named mini-brainstem diagrams to instantly see a definitive declarative statement that defines the normal functions of the physical structures of your thalamus, midbrain, pons, and medulla on the chart and the two communication processes, which involve sending biochemical signals up and down your brainstem in separate neuronal pathways.

The 6th Diagram contains the same six mini-brainstem diagrams shown in Diagram #5, but they are all unnamed.

Now, you can think repeatedly about the names and definitions of the four brainstem structures depicted in the brainstem diagrams and the two communication processes, which involve sending biochemical signals up and down your brainstem in separate neuronal pathways until you can easily identify them and/or write down their names on a piece of paper for maximum retention.

Also, you can TAP or CLICK on each of the six unnamed mini-brainstem diagrams to instantly remind yourself about what the normal functions are of each of the four physical structures on the chart and the two communication processes of your brainstem.

REVIEW OF THE BASIC BRAIN KNOWLEDGE
green separator

After you have reviewed the six mini-brainstem diagrams, you will be able to start thinking about the way your thalamus, which is located at the top of your brainstem's three physical structures, acts as a "gateway" to your cerebrum and limbic system. It can divert sensory signals from your body and organs and glands to specific parts of your cerebrum (intellectual system) or your limbic system. (emotional system), especially with regard to survival behavior.

Also, you will be able to think about the two communication processes, which depend upon the physical structure of your brainstem. They provide the vital connections between your brain and your body that make possible both your conscious self-awareness and your ability to move your body.

With these four mini-brain charts and two mini-brainstem charts, you can refresh your memories about the details of the classic brain knowledge in a modern rational contextualized pattern anytime you want to use them.

Then, by using the spaced-repetition method of memorization --- over time, you will be able to remember them in your declarative long-term memory system to increase your cognitive reserve. This specific additional new brain knowledge can help you flourish in the future, since you will know how to transform your subjective perceptions of reality into objective reliable knowledge about your environment.

Just TAP or CLICK on each of the 18 named mini-diagrams and/or the 18 unnamed mini-diagrams as often as you need to in order to refresh your memories about the fundamental facts about your brain's physical structures and your mind's mental functions.

You can now quickly review the 18 brain images on the three charts anytime you want to save the salient facts in your long-term memory. Parents can help children learn about the basic brain knowledge by middle school or high school science classes. The two mini-brain charts and the one mini-brainstem chart provide you with the 18 names and definitions of the well-known 18 brain structures and mental functions of both sides of your brain: your Left Hemisphere and Right Hemisphere.

Your two hemispheres are separated by membranes and connected by three huge nerve cables known as your corpus collosum.

The structure of the mini-brain charts was designed to help you maximize memory retention of the fundamental brain facts and mental functions. They include six named brain images on each chart and additional charts with six unnamed brain images for you to use to learn the basic universal facts about your brain's physical structures and your mind's mental functions. They provide you with the easiest way to apply the most powerful learning technique known, which is the spaced-repetition method of memorization.

However, in addition to knowing the new brain vocabulary, you can choose to deal with disruptive influences caused by the menacing mass media and social media business conglomerates. They both demand that you pay attention to them and conform to their incessant commercial pressures on you to stay online and continue to "Hurry up and buy things! day and night or to perpetually stay online and "Make clicks!" all day long!

Advertisements assault your brain every moment of each day and night with overwhelming distractions and temptations to influence you to buy things or waste your time. But this is precisely the kind of immense challenge that your brain has evolved to conquer. You can learn how to avoid many of the persistent ads by deliberately (mindfully) deciding to ignore them or forget them.

If you can avoid useless social behaviors and avoid dangerous addictive habits, you will be able to create more time to make effective plans to achieve your most passionate and fulfilling goals.
