HUMANIST HUB
OF SECULAR SCIENCE STARS
June 26, 2020
Note:
Robert Lustig, who is a research scientist at UC San Francisco, has written a penetrating critique of the negative influence our modern high-tech social media culture is having on the health of our bodies and brains. The new book is THE HACKING OF THE AMERICAN MIND: the Science Behind the Corporate Takeover of Our Bodies and Brains. It was published by W. W. Norton, 2018 (256 pages) and it is an updated version of an earlier book published in 1998 about how the food industry was influencing Americans eating and health habits before the rise of social media.
Lustig also wrote another very important book called FAT CHANCE: Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity, and Disease. It grew out of a popular and influential online lecture about the dangers of consuming too much sugar. It was published by Hudson Street Press, 2013 (i-v, 320 pages)
Both books should be read and discussed throughout the Humanist Galaxy.
