Note: Michael Shermer has written many important books about the importance of skepticism and the use of critical thinking skills to arrive at facts, truth, and wisdom. His books, which are based upon an understanding of cognitive neuroscience, have dramatically documented the use and misuse of the "believing brain."

Shermer's recent book [1] Heavens on Earth: The Scientific Search for the Afterlife, Immortality, and Utopia, published by Henry Holt, 2018 (i-xii, 305 pages) is linked below along with the following two books: [2] The Believing Brain: The Scientific Search for the Afterlife, Immortality, and Utopia, published by Times Books, 2011 (385 pages); and [3] Science Friction: Where the known Meets the Unknown, published by Times Books, 2005 (296 pages)

These three books should be read throughout the Humanist Galaxy of freethinking secular humanists. You have quick access at the links below to the outlines and reviews of all three books:

He has written many other articles about the evolution of human beliefs and behavior that are accessible in the Skeptic magazine, of which he is the founding publisher. Also he is the editor of Skeptic.com/ and has been a monthly columnist for Scientific American magazine for many years. In addition, he is adjunct professor at Claremont Graduate University and he lives in Southern California. You can follow him on:
